Loxti Home: one phone number for the whole household

Loxti is a business communications platform. We are also building something for the home.

Loxti Home is a single phone number that a whole household shares. It is not available yet. This post explains why we are building it, what to expect, and what it will not do.

The problem

Two people share a streaming account, a bank login or a utility account. The phone number on it belongs to one of them. When a verification code arrives, it goes to that person's phone, and that person is at work, on a plane or asleep.

Households also lost something when landlines went away: one number that the whole home could answer.

The idea

One number for the household, in an app on everyone's phone:

• Calls ring every phone. Whoever is nearest answers.
• One shared voicemail.
• One shared text inbox, with one conversation per contact that everyone can see.
• Verification codes shown large, with a copy button, hidden again after a few minutes.

What it will not do

We would rather be direct about the limits:

• No outbound calls at launch. It receives calls and texts and shows codes.
• No 911. Dial emergency numbers from your mobile phone.
• It does not read texts sent to your existing mobile number. To use it for a shared account, change the phone number on that account to your household number.
• Not every service accepts it. Some banks and streaming apps refuse to send codes to numbers that are not on a mobile carrier. We are testing the popular ones and will tell you plainly which work.
• Households only, not businesses or roommates, and new numbers only at first.

When

We do not have a date, and we have not set the price. It will be one simple monthly price per household, announced at launch.
